No you never knew that? well don't feel bad not too many people know about his little boy. I just asked how his little boy has been doing lately. I haven't heard from him in like a long time! But he said his little boy is doing fine and that they are trying to get together more! ...the info is that He has a little boy his name is Frankie J, just like his daddy. He is only 2 1/2 years old. He lives with Gracie, Frankie's X. He still supports lil' Frankie J so he ain't a bad daddy. His baby is sooooo cute...hey just like Big Frankie J!! 18.gif !He is Frankies joy...he loves him very much!

Tuesday May 27, 2003
Columbia Records: Welcome to the LIVE Chat with Frankie J! What's A Man To Do?" is in stores today!

Frankie J: Hi everybody who's chatting with me.

twisted threads: Will you be on tour any time soon?
Frankie J: There's a plan for a tour. Hopefully between July and August. There are plans of doing a tour with Ricky Martin.

Neeka: Frankie first I'd like to say I love every single song on the album. Do you plan on doing any future work with any female artist. If so who?
Frankie J: Wow! I would love to work with Beyonce if that was possible, since we're label mates. Maybe even with Alicia Keyes.

imijs girl: Hey Frankie what's up?! I just wanted to know if you like singing in Spanish or English better? Or both?
Frankie J: I love both! I love to be expressive in both languages.

Jennifer Benitez: I noticed on your album cover for the thank yous you thanked "lil Frankie." Is that your son? Just curious! And if yes, how old is he. If not and if you don't mind me asking who is he?
Frankie J: That's my little boy - my son. Wow! Everybody reads the credits and thank yous! He is 2 1/2 years old! He's my pride and joy!

imijs girl: Frankie, if you were to go on tour, who would you want as your opening act?
Frankie J: I think right now I'd be the opening act! ;)

Chica: When are going to make another video? Cuz your 1st one was the best.
Frankie J: There are plans for a second single already so hopefully in about a month or two we'll be working on that and hopefully getting a second video out there.

MQ: What do you want listeners to take w/them in listening to your album?
Frankie J: Just you know the realness in the songs and the passion and the soul and heart that I carry in these songs.

mary: How do you deal with all of your many fans?
Frankie J: I consider them a blessing because if it weren't for them I wouldn't be where I am today, so I hold them close to my heart.

Justine Pena: Everyone always asks PERSONAL questions but I just wanna know like what YOU are into, or like what you do on your down time...when you get it.
Frankie J: On my down time I love to rest and just be home and watch TV. Every now and then I'll get away by myself in the room and work in the studio. I like to write more songs. I love to watch The Tonight Show since I stay up real late just to see who's up and coming as far as music goes, what actors and celebrities are on with Jay Leno.

Monica S: What was it like for you to see yourself on MTV and BET?
Frankie J: It was stunning! It was speechless! It was a wonderful feeling just knowing that I'm accomplishing my dreams slowly but surely.

Maria: What was your inspiration for the title of your debut album?
Frankie J: "What's A Man To Do?" I think the song basically said itself. Just the situations I've been through in my life lead to the title. A lot of the songs came from the heart that are personal. All the situations that happen to you and you come across in your life relationship wise and I just figured "What's A Man To Do?" would be the best title for the whole album I guess.

eric a reyes: Do you love writing songs?
Frankie J: Yes I do. :) My favorite part about writing songs is when you finish them you appreciate your work and you just get a rush out of it.

cybil: Will you do an album totally in Spanish?
Frankie J: Yes as a matter of fact I have done one in Spanish. It's the same English album with 7 of those songs from the English album and 3-4 new songs on the Spanish album. It's self-titled "Frankie J."

imijs girl: Do you still keep in touch with the other guys from Kumbia Kings?
Frankie J: Yes I do. We're still friends. They were recently at a show of mine that I did in Corpus Christi, so they're still showing support and every now and then I talk to some of the guys on the phone.

Latin chick: How long have you been doing music?
Frankie J: I've been doing music since I was about 12 years old. I used to carry a little keyboard that was given to me by my older brother's friend. Sometimes I would write poems and just try to create songs with a lot of those poems and pretend I was making music at the same time. I guess everything was born from playing a little keyboard when I was 12 years old.

maritza: Okay my first question has to be what made you start singing? Was it a childhood dream?
Frankie J: Yes it was. I just always looked up to those artists from the early '80s like Michael Jackson, New Edition, those groups that would always have those hits, those good songs. Just by listening to them I was inspired as a young boy to sing and I guess it developed from there.

LaTiNa CaLi: Hey Frankie J this is Arlene from the bay area California. Not long ago this month you performed at the BOMB concert for Wild 94.9 in San Jose, California. Did you enjoy coming out and performing for many people including myself (giggles) and also did they bay area show enough love for you to come back and perform for us many more times to come in the future?
Frankie J: Oh yes I definitely did have a lot of fun and I enjoyed the crowd. They showed me a lot of love, and I would definitely go back to San Jose and San Francisco for another BOMB concert.

Jackie: What's your favorite song on your album?
Frankie J: My favorite song on the album would probably be "Won't Change" which is the second single. It's more up-tempoish and deals with summertime stuff from a guy's perspective - to meet girls, go to malls, shop around. It's one of those songs you want to cruise to in your car. It's a different type of song. It's more of a positive thing than a negative thing. It's not like "Don't Wanna Try." It's more of a positive message thing. Things that you do in summertime is what it's about.

eric a reyes: What is ur most embarrassing moment?
Frankie J: When I was with the Kumbia Kings, I was the crazy guy running around on stage. So one night, in maybe Kansas, for some reason I just decided to jump off stage, not knowing that the floor was full of alcohol. So when I landed both feet just I ended up slipping and landing right on my behind with the mic in my hand singing. ;) Now that I'm doing the solo thing nothing's happened yet so I'm fortunate of that.

Marlene: After "A Dream Come True," what is your dream now or are you still being your dream?
Frankie J: I think my dream is still to reach out to the people with my music and just move on to the next level. To keep on making my music and for people to keep on accepting me as I am and to keep on staying on the level that everybody else is and just being respected. I also want to do the acting thing so that's a dream of mine. So I'd like to pursue the acting career at the same time as making music.

kacey 31: What made you write "Don't Wanna Try"?
Frankie J: It was a personal experience for me. It was something that I needed to write to let it off my chest finally and not hold it in and turn it into a song, which led me to this day.

Monica S: What is the craziest thing a fan has ever done that you remember?
Frankie J: This has happened many times. There are some crazy fans where they basically take their bras off and throw them on stage, so that's kinda crazy there!

imijs girl: Did you expect "Don't Wanna Try" to be so successful?
Frankie J: You know what? I never did. It was just something that to me I love making music and writing music, and it's up to the fans at that point. I just take care of writing the songs and making the music and the fans make it a hit basically, but I never expected for this to happen. My hobby and pride and joy is making music and it just so happened that the fans loved it, and it's caused all this drama. Not that it's bad drama, though - it's good drama!

Justine Pena: I really love your English album. I just got it today!! What type of sound will your Spanish album have?
Frankie J: Basically the same exact thing. There are 7 songs in the English album translated into Spanish so it's the same music - R&B but just in Spanish.

maritza: Being a Kumbia King, what did you learn during the years you were with the group?
Frankie J: Just learning how to appreciate your success, appreciating your fans because the fans go out of their way for you and you just learn to respect them and acknowledge each and every single one them.

Jackie: Have there been any challenges that you have had to face as a solo artist?
Frankie J: I guess every day for me is a challenge. Just the fact that I'm Mexican and in this R&B world sometimes you just may think there's no chance for you but you just gotta believe in yourself. So I mean I guess everyday is a challenge doing the R&B thing as a Mexican. That to me is a great challenge.

mayma: Hey Frankie, I love your first single, I think the piano adds a nice touch, I wanted to know if you plan on doing any touring in the U.S. and what do you hope to achieve as a solo artist?
Frankie J: I do plan on doing a tour in the U.S. and basically what I want to achieve is just to gain respect from the people, for the people to love my work and appreciate what I do musically. I just hope that they don't just categorize me as a one-hit wonder. I want to keep going and pursue this music career and this game as long as possible.

imijs girl: Is there a song on the CD that is most personal to you?
Frankie J: There is a song that is really personal to me and it's "From the Outside Looking In." It's No. 11 on the album. It's just a personal experience again. It's a song that really comes from my heart. It's a song that hits the heart.

imijs girl: Which is better, meeting your devoted fans or recording music?
Frankie J: Wow! I think both. I enjoy doing both. I enjoy meeting the fans and greeting them and saying hi to them. I could never take that away from them. I also enjoy being creative in the studio and making songs.

imijs girl: Hey Frankie how are you? I wanted to know what your favorite foods are?
Frankie J: I love mustard chicken! And the lemon chicken, and I love all kinds of chickens. I love meatloaf - it's another favorite dish of mine.

imijs girl: How long have you played the piano? You are so good at it!!
Frankie J: I just recently started getting more into the piano. I've always loved it. I've not mastered it. I'm still learning it. It's been about 5 years since I started. I'm still coordinating myself with the keys. I guess I'm doing the job so far. ;)

Frankie fan 4 life: How many tattoos do you have , what do they say, and do they have a meaning?
Frankie J: I have 7 tattoos and each tattoo does have a meaning. One is my last name. Another is the Kumbia Kings tattoo that has a 4 and it indicates the last album I worked on with them. I also have a guitar and a piano going around it like a snake which signifies the two instruments that I love the most. I also have my son's name Frankie J inside the guitar and his birthday. I also have a treble clef on my right arm which is a musical note to signify music. I have three valleys of life on my left arm. They are for love, for family and for respect.

imijs girl: Do you play any other instruments besides the piano?
Frankie J: The guitar of course.

imijs girl: How long did it take for you to record this album?
Frankie J: Columbia Records really pushed it, and I had to finish everything in 30 days and we pulled it off. We ended up handling it though it was tough, but we got it done. Many sleepless days and nights!

imijs girl: What do you miss most when touring?
Frankie J: My family of course. I miss my son most because I don't get to see him as much. Just having the old Mom's cooking in the kitchen. When you tour so much, you're always eating fast food or hotel food - not the same as Mom's cooking. Basically my friends that I hang out with all the time. I miss them too.

Canada grrl: Have you had a chance to travel much for work, or for fun? Where have you been that you just LOVED? Where would you like to go, and why there?
Frankie J: I love New York. I've been to NY when I was working, and I want to go back. I love the environment and the fast life. It's just a big place. I love the clubs in New York. The women are real beautiful in New York, too.

conga: How much creative control do you have over the songs and their order on your album? How do you choose which to use, and in what order?
Frankie J: Columbia gave me total control for the songwriting for all my songs. They just gave me the freedom to write and produce my record. As far as the order, they gave me the freedom to do that, so I went ahead and put it in the order that I wanted them to be, and they released them that way. They gave me 100 percent control of everything.

mayma: Frankie, what genre of music would categorize your album in?
Frankie J: I think it's pop R&B with a little bit of hip hop twist to it.

Jenna: If you could say three words about this album what would they be?
Frankie J: Real. Expressive. I can't think of a third one! Compelling - that's it!

X3 La Silent X3 07: Who came up with the title "What's A Man To Do?"
Frankie J: I did. It's actually one of the songs in the album. It's a song title "What's A Man To Do?"

Frankie fan 4 life: What was the first CD you ever bought?
Frankie J: Wow! It's gotta be a Menudo CD back in the day. It wasn't a CD, it was a 45. I actually bought a Michael Jackson record, too. That's funny!

AmAnDa: Hey Frankie, first off I must say I am a huge fan of yours and I'm loving the new album. Do you feel kind of "naked" on stage now that you are a solo performer instead of part of a group, or are you at ease either way?
Frankie J: At first I was feeling kinda naked on stage and alone, but after a while I just started getting used to the feel and I wasn't so alone anymore because the fans are giving me the comfort and shelter I needed to be on stage, so I don't feel so alone anymore. I feel comfortable now. I feel like I need to perform with a live band from now on, but that's about it.

Frankie fan 4 life: Do you like performing live or making videos?
Frankie J: I love performing live. That's the best feeling! I also love making videos but performing live is like the adrenaline rush right there. That's the bread and butter!

Jackie: As far as your album, what are your plans for this summer?
Frankie J: Just to keep on promoting it and to get the people to get the album because it's my first solo album. It's my first time doing a solo project and I'm real proud of this album, so I'm going to take the time to promote it here in the States and in Canada and Mexico and hopefully even Europe. I'm going to work as much as I can to get the people to get this record.

Cecilia: Are you currently seeing someone right now?
Frankie J: No I'm not. I am a single man! And I love being a single man.

Frankie's Princess: Can you relate to the song "Don't Wanna Try"?
Frankie J: Yes I do relate to it because it actually happened to me, so it was a personal experience, so I have to relate to something like that.

cutie with luv umbi: Frankie J my question is what is something in your career you still have to do that you haven't accomplished yet or a place you wish to go that you haven't yet seen?
Frankie J: I've still yet to go to Europe. I want to go there and perform
there and get to meet all these beautiful women in Europe and I hope
to hopefully one of these days attend the Grammy's and be in the Grammy's.
That's still a dream of mine to accomplish. God willing I can fulfill that gap.

Rican Chula: How old are you Frankie?
Frankie J: I will be 24 this year.

Rican Chula: Would you like to work with Jennifer Lopez?
Frankie J: I would love to work with Jennifer Lopez. The question is if she would love to work with me. She's a busy woman.

Justine Pena: I wanted to know if you are a native Spanish speaker or if you had to eventually learn it?
Frankie J: No my first language was Spanish. I was born in Tijuana, Mexico, and raised in San Diego, so I'm fluent in Spanish.

Rican Chula: Would you spend one day with a fan?
Frankie J: Of course I would. Definitely I would.

rloza: Do you remember writing "I Took You For Granted"?
Frankie J: Wow! yes I do remember writing that one. That was a song called "You Say" that was written for an artist named Jennifer Pena who was in the Latin Tejano industry.

NYC phil c: Where did you record your album?
Frankie J: I recorded it at home. I live in San Diego, and I have a built in studio at home, so I had the opportunity to record everything at home.

Lorena: How was your experience at club DMX the other night?
Frankie J: That's in Dallas - wow! It was a good experience. I had fun. I was just with a couple friends just hanging out and I was just killing some time before the next show that was coming up the following days after that. So I had a really good time.

Scooter: What's in your CD player right now?
Frankie J: There's a Frankie J record! ;) No there's Brian McKnight, there R. Kelly. I think that's it. Those are the only CDs I'm listening to right now.

nessa: I have to say I have loved your music since the beginning. Now that you have done freestyle, Kumbia, and R&B, any other styles you wanna try?
Frankie J: Well I'm actually pursuing the R&B career right now, so I'm doing R&B and hip hop music which actually was my first love.

Wyld Vero: I'm a poet, and I wanted to know how do you put your words into music? Because I've tried, and I'm not that great at it.
Frankie J: With me I write a melody, and the lyrics. When I write I combine them both and create a song by combining melody and lyrics and music.

Ldy blldg 14: What made you decide to release a solo album?
Frankie J: I just felt it was time for me to branch out of the group I was in and leave the nest and pursue the solo career. If I wasn't going to do it now, I would never have done it, so I felt it was time to move on.

Kumbia aztec queen: Are you the youngest in ur family?
Frankie J: I have a younger sister. I'm the middle guy.

AmAnDa: What was the name of the first song you ever wrote?
Frankie J: I believe it was called "Remember." I was about 12-13 years old. That's when I had that old keyboard - that 12-key keyboard that I would carry around with me all the time. Kinda like what Linus did with his blanket.

buttercup: How did you begin working with Baby Beesh? Do you like it?
Frankie J: I made friends with him when I was with the group. We clicked as friends and told each other we'd work together, but we were busy doing the group and rap and finally when I got out of the group he came down to San Diego and we did our thing working together and recorded some songs that went on my album.

cindy: Frankie, are you going to be live at the show The View?
Frankie J: Yes it's going to be live which will be June 4th on The View.

tita: When is your b-day?
Frankie J: My birthday is December 7th, when Pearl Harbor was bombed. The only day in history I remember - just playing with ya! ;)

theya: Do you ever get writer's block? How do you get over it?
Frankie J: You know what? Sometimes you feel your mind is overworked. So there's time when you just wanna lay down and rest, so what I do is stay away from the pen and paper as long as I can if I get writer's block and go for a walk in the park or drive around and get some alone time and come back and get back to work. That's how I handle writer's block.

this IS C-LOS: You sing the hell out of "Wont Change" (my 1st favorite song), have you gotten any vocal training? With who? Where?
Frankie J: Wow! No I never did. It was just something that I guess is a God-given talent I learned a lot as far as vocals go from Brian McKnight. I consider him my mentor and the person I look up to as far as vocals, lyrically and melodically. I've always just learned from different artists. People like KC and Jojo are people I look up to and admire.

Scooter: Did you have a childhood nickname? If you did what was it? Mine's Scooter.
Frankie J: No actually everybody would always call me Frankie. Everybody knew me that way.

Melly: Did you ever meet Selena?
Frankie J: No I did not. I wish I had the chance to meet Selena, but I never did unfortunately.

Moka: What is your Greatest Fear? Either Personal or Professional
Frankie J: My greatest fear is failing at doing what I do best which is music. That's my greatest fear. I hope I never do!

Moka: Does the success of Amanda Perez give you encouragement?
Frankie J: Somewhat to a certain extent because she's a female and Mexican it gives me the inspiration to do what she's doing but from a male perspective, although her career and my career are two different careers. We have different backgrounds. But I do respect her as an artist.

Rican dime: How long did it take for you to record your album?
Frankie J: It took me about 30 days to record the album.

Michelle Marieum: Is there a place where we can send you fan mail?
Frankie J: Yes, there is! You can send me some to 7322 Southwest Freeway, No. 886, Houston, TX 77074. You can also leave messages on my message board at www.frankiejonline.com. My brother checks it most of the time, and I jump in to check up on it too.

tu prima Celia en KC: When will you know that you have reached your artistic goals?
Frankie J: You never know because, no matter what, you always just grow and grow, so you never know when you're going to reach your goals. You just keep breaking new barriers God willing. What can I say? You just keep working hard at what you do and don't even worry about things like that.

mayma: Do you plan to do any touring or promoting in the overseas market? American R&B music is very popular in Asia.
Frankie J: Wow! I do want to do the tour here in the States and overseas. They do tell me it's big in Japan and Asia, so hopefully I can do a tour in Asia.

imijs girl: What qualities do you look for in a potential girlfriend?
Frankie J: One that can cook, one that carries herself well, and of course she has to be a beautiful woman - not a Cosmo girl but a good head on her shoulders, takes care of herself, and has those family values.

tu prima Celia en KC: If you could show one of your fans around in San Diego, where would you take them?
Frankie J: I would take them to Seaport Village which is a place where you just get to see the water and the beauty of San Diego. In the night time it's beautiful with all the city lights. It's a nice area - it's a nice place. Nice seafood restaurants there also.

qu33n 0f bl in gumbi: Dude I just have to say that your new CD rox! I have to be honest when I say that when you were known as Frankie Boy I absolutely loved your music, especially the song "Believe In Love." Would you ever consider making another track that has the Latin Hip Hop style to it?
Frankie J: These fans go way back! I would consider doing something like that in the future. Doing something on the side wouldn't hurt. I would definitely do something like that later on in the future.

Frankie fan 4 life: Which one do you prefer, Halle Berry, Beyonce, or J. Lo?
Frankie J: J. Lo. That's the favorite one.

cutie with luv umbi: What do you love about being single?
Frankie J: Just the freedom, being able to do what I want to do, to come and go as I please and just enjoying myself wherever I go not having somebody looking over my shoulder saying "You can't do this and you can't do that." I just love hanging out with my friends and having fun.

Raquel: Are you excited to come to Boston for the big Kiss concert on Saturday? Have you been to Boston before?
Frankie J: No I've never been to Boston. I'm excited to go to Boston and am looking forward to that show.

fan 4 life: Will you ever put your son in one of your videos?
Frankie J: Yeah why not? Seems like he might love the camera just like his Daddy!

imijs girl: Do you feel pressured sometimes when recording songs? Are you a perfectionist?
Frankie J: Yes I am. I'm very picky when it comes to my vocals and the songs. I like to be a perfectionist. I definitely think that no matter what I do and what I record I could always do better, but sometimes you're rushed and doing projects and short on time that you have to finish it as best you can. But I am a perfectionist. I like to take my time and be perfect with everything.

Wyld Vero: Do you reply to your fan mail, or does someone else do it?
Frankie J: I also look at my fan mail and sometimes I reply. Most of the time, my family will do it.

Columbia Records: Frankie, thanks so much for being here tonight, and congratulations on the release of your new CD today! We're almost out of time, but do you have any final thoughts for us before we have to close?

Frankie J: Thank you to everybody who's been so supportive of my career. Thank you for chit chatting with me and all these questions. Go get the album. It's hot and good music. Check me out on The View June 4th and TRL June 5th!

Columbia Records: Thanks to you all for a great chat! Stay tuned to www.frankiejonline.com for more upcoming events and contests. Frankie J's solo debut "What's A Man To Do?" is in stores now.
