Seether, did u know?

Did you guys know that seether is from South Africa.
They used to be called:"Saron gas" but,had to change their name to be able to release their album in the states.
I was at their 1st gig ever.
They rocked and I think they still do.

What was wrong with their old name?

The New Zealand band "shihad" had to change their name a couple of years ago to "pacifier" when they wanted to release in the states. the reason? 'shihad' sounded too much like 'jihad'.

Really?! ^^ I knew they changed their name but I didnt know it was because of that ^^

yeah... you can really see how much 9/11 has affected people when bands have to change their name so it doesn't remind people of what happened

Yeah sometimes it goes a bit far though like I heard some people were trying to get Peter Jackson to change the name of LOTR: The Two Towers because of the 9/11 thing but it was like two years later and ya cant really change the name of a well known book.

"Seron gas" also had something to do with something that happened in the states, not sure what happened though.

Both of the mentioned band changed because of America, doesnt it seem a little stupid that we are all top-toeing around so as to not annoy them? (I know this is about music but that just struck me as weird)
