Hi, obviously im very new to this site but i was hoping some of you could help me. See recently i got out of my "punk rock i hate you" phase and have come to see that with this new found realization my music collection has decreased noticably in size. Lately ive been going through a lot of Beatle - therapy, and some other bands ive gotten pretty into over the past month or so are; The Pixies, Harvey Danger, OK Go, Weezer, The Cure and the Velvet Underground. But even with this my current playlist is lacking in variety, so i was wondering if anyone who listens to these bands or has any knowledge of them could direct me towards some music they think i'd be interested in, if you can that would be great. sorry to waste an entire post on this but i needed some help.

I'm glad you got out of your phase! i remember going through my 'the world hates me phase'...and when i got out of it i hardly listened to half of my CDs anymore.

The only band that I know from your list (i'm in australia) is weezer...

*tries to think of american bands* not all of these are american...but how about The Hives? Foo Fighters? Garbage? The Dandy Warhols? The Whitlams? Powderfinger? Eskimo Joe? (Ooooh, a funky song is eskimo joe - sweater. Its an oldie but a goodie! in my opinion)

I really dunno if i'm on the right track with those artists, but yeah. Good luck!

Right now im sort of craving a bit more intelligent sort of bizare music, The Pixies are the best example i can give of that , just sort of intelligent interesting lyrics, and unique sound, i mean three years of power chords and you just start to crave anything remotely unique, sorry for the vague description but thats sort of the best i give since its sort of hard to describe your taste when your in a transitional period.

Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds?

They are my latest obsession, I'll get "The Boatman's Call soon"

read about them at allmusic.com if you want info on them, or just look up 'nick cave'....

Have you tried some of the classics? Surprisingly, some of the original Gods of mainstream rock were way ahead of their time and are incredibly innovative in their sound and music. Try out The Who and Floyd if you haven't already.

i've actually tried already, Dark Side Of The Moon was very very good, and i have The Wall sitting in my room i just need to get my butt off this chair and go listen to it, as for the Who i like the songs you always hear on the radio, but i've never listened to an entire album. But i still believe they're good, despite their Rolling Stones-esq tours with insane prices.

Definitely agree with MODERN. Rolling Stones live is one of the best shows you will see... and they won't be along too much longer, so the sooner the better.

With the ones you have listed, I reccomend the following bands: (sorry if any are repeats :S)

John Denver
REM
The Who
Bruce Springsteen
Rush (just saw them in concert two days ago, they were celebrating their 30th aniversary... they are absolutely amazing; their style is older rock/newer rock mixes)

Worth it while it may be, it seems ridiculous to sing "i cant get get no satisfaction" when you charge $60 a t shirt. It's more than a little ironic to me that a good number of the rebelious rock n rollers of the 60's and 70's now have higher ticket prices than most mainstream rap or rock artists. But thanks for the suggestion, Ive also been considering REM but they will most likely fall in the back of the list next time i go to a record shop with some money, as for john denver hes really not my style, and while i may get guff for it i despise Rush. but to each his opwn, i appreciate the help.
