SUBLIMES COOL, BUT THAT SANTERIA IS WAY PLAYED OUT...AND PUNK CLOTHES IS JUST ANOTHER TREND THAT A BUNCH OF KIDS ARE GONNA FOLLOW BECAUSE THEY HAVE TO HAVE SOME KIND OF IMAGE AND CANT BE THEMSELVES
ANYBODY LIKE OLD OLD SKOOL SKA....LIKE ORIGINAL SKA...LIKE BOB MARLEY WHEN HE FIRST STARTED OR THE SKATALITES? |

note.... madness are on my list, they are an awesome ska band
i would also classify no doubt as an old skool ska band as they did start in 1986, but not many of you guys would know that, listen to their old stuff before tragic kingdom, its awesome. sublimes songs are always gonna be played out cos they are no longer around to make new music and i wouldnt classify bob marelys old stuff as ska....still reggae if u ask me This post has been edited by Renée on May 26 2004, 01:54 AM |

bob marly is awesome.. but not ska. i love catch 22, ive never really been sure if that is ska though.. sublime is one of my all time favorite bands. i never really though of that as ska though, i always thought it was kind of reggea too. i always thought most of his songs didnt have a fast enough beat to be ska. thats just me though, wouldnt doubt it if im wrong.

well ska is a mix of reggae and rock, so a lot of sublimes music has that reggae feel to them, but they do definately hae songs that classify as ska

You all need an education. Toots and the Maytals are the original ska band. No Doubt did was on a Toots and the Maytals tribute album. You know that Sublime song "54-46", that is a cover of a Toots and the Maytals song. If you wanna check out some tight ska, listen to Toots and the Maytals live, it was just re-released and re-maastered. It's a great live album with all their best songs on it. You have to go check out the roots of these bands you like today. I wasn't even born yet when this cocnert took place but I still dig the Maytals. Check it out at
