Heya Noodles
Yeh floyd really rock out, The wall and Darkside of the moon are total classics that everyone should be forced to listen to. My favorite song of theirs is sheep, I just love how vividly the set the entire scene What do you get for pretending the danger's not real. Meek and obedient you follow the leader Down well trodden corridors into the valley of steel. What a surprise! A look of terminal shock in your eyes. Now things are really what they seem. No, this is no bad dream. Simply amazing song writing. The first time I heard this song (Which was only a couple of years ago, I'm quite a recent convert to floyd) I listened to it over and over for about a week, just couldn't put them down. |

Pink Floyd was great, but only in their entirety. There is only glimpses of genious in any solo work by Waters or Gilmour.
But when Roger Waters completely took over in the lyrics department, the band hit a huge rut. Granted, this rut was indeed interesting, but DarkSide, WishYouWereHere, Animals, Wall, and FinalCut were really all about the same thing: self denial that leads to or is brought on by alienation. Once you realize this, it is hard to continue listening. I have ALL of the PF albums on LP, and have yet to replace them as CDs. I will probably have complete LedZep and Beatles CD collections before I even buy DarkSideoftheMoon... I still love the expressionist music of PinkFloyd, and I consider the guitar work to be about the best in rock music. But the themes of the lyrics are tiresome. I know a philosophy professor that thinks The Wall is deep. Now that is just sad. If an 9th grader can figure it out, how deep is it? Shine on you Crazy Diamond! --gh |
