What are your thoughts about metallica? Are finished? What about their last album "St Anger"?

Although I think St Anger is absolutely awful, it's good to see them veering away from their Load type material. They should probably call it a day soon - we've got great memories, great albums, and the latest live shows have been quite impressive. Best to go out while they've still got some respect left.

st. anger sucked man, but if you like metallica's older stuff, you have to check out a band called "megadeth" if you've never heard of them, well i'm sorry, but if you have, we are among a dying breed. their kinda a side project of metallica and a couple of the members are the same, and they recently released a new album called rude awakening, it's really good to say the least.

St Anger should have been called "St Shit" , seriously the worst peice of crap put out from a once respectable, and undoubablty talented group of people. And I'm so disappinted the Trujillo has associated himself with them.

Princeofdarkness, you are somewhat wrong about megadeth, I certainly wouldn't call them a side project.

Dave mustaine WAS metallica's guitarist for about 2 years back in the very early 80's but got kicked out. Soon after he formed megadeth (in '83 I believe) and they have been a solid group (well, Dave is the only original member, closely followed by the bass player, also a Dave, who has been with them for most of the time) right up until '02/03 when dave Funnyked up his arm and couldn't play for a year or so.

Although the early Metallica stuff was good, megadeth (IMHO) are far bet in every possible way.

Metallica are has beens, I doubt they will release anything of relevence again. James is more interested in having a hoe down, and Kirk and Lars are having a John Lennon style love in (best of luck to them).

I'm looking forward to seeing that movie about them though, nothing quite as funny as watching Lars through a hissy fit like the little girl he is.

Metallica are an amazing band! The old stuff is so much better though, i am not keen on
st. anger, I play the guitar myself and wat amazes me with metallica is of course their amazing guiatr riffs, in my opinion Kirk Hammet greatest metal riff is definatly enter sandman, although he is entertaining in all their work!

st anger didn't really have what i love about metallica... the deep ballads... the incredible solo's... it was basically just pop. and not as angry as it should be... because anger isn't screaming... it's having this incredibly powerful feeling of pain... that... oh i can't be bothered... metallica rock. \m/

After "...And Justice For All" they started going downhill. Where they stand now, I'm sure tons of Slipknot and NFG (sorry for steriotyping :S) fans will LOVE St. Anger. It's not that their new CD is remarkably bad... it's just that when you listen to their previous songs (such as "To Live is To Die") the guitar is so amazing it just hurts to listen to them play this trash (St. Anger). Some of the older songs bring tears to my eyes, as they were so substantial; but now, all that talent seems to have left.

Sure, they have taken on a new style, which inevitably will bring on new fans (younger ones, most likely? :S)... but what they need to ask themselves is if the newer fans take importance over the faithful, fundamental fans that have been right by their sides from the very beginning.

[B][COLOR=blue]Metallica has to be one of my most favourite bands, along with zeppelin, van halen, pink floyd and all other classic rock bands. st anger was just about the only song i liked on the cd though, but i love lots of their older songs. All the classics like fade to black, one, seek and destroy, nothing else matters, you could go on for a while. im not oo sure if the band is completely finished but it looks as if they're really slowing down:\

I don't think they started it, but they were very strongly against it and got a fair bit of publicity over it

oh well, now there's hundreds of p2p programs and Metallica can't close them all smile.gif
